In 1979, one of today’s most successful and quality orientated production yards was established in Denmark. During the 1980s, X-Yachts designed, and built, winning IOR yachts for World Class Racing. Their success with this market attracted the attention of the cruising market, which was now looking for fast, quality, and comfortable sailing yachts. There appered nothing more obvious, but to use their boat building experience from the fast racers, and combine this with building Performance Cruising yachts.
Throughout the 1990s, X-Yachts’ range of Performance Cruisers was born. The X-412 was the first model in the new line, and was followed by the X-382, X-442, X-362, X-302, X-332, X-612, X-482 and finally in 1999 the X-562. Many of these models have benefited from evolution over their production life, with updates on styling and interior layouts, but most significantly, the application of new keel and rudder profiles, in their quest to be progressive. They achieve this edge with their in-house Research and Development, where they discover how to improve and refine their designs, ensuring X-YACHTS’ position as market leaders. Models such as the X-482, X-562 and the X-612 MK 2 are now offered with various keel options, whether it’s a deep High Performance? keel or a shallower keel with similar stability for their more cruising oriented clients.
The new millennium was celebrated with the introduction of something very special; the all-new IMX 40 racer. She was introduced having as standard, a very high level of technical specification, including carbon mast, boom and wheel while also incorporating X-Yachts’s well proven construction methods. The IMX 40 became an almost unbeatable IMS and IRC performer in Europe, Japan, and Australia, while in the US, she performed with top results under PHRF. In early 2002 the IMX 45 followed her little sister onto the race courses, and continued the succesful tradition worldwide.
In 2001 the X-Yachts 73 was another milestone in their history. She represented their Infiltration into the luxury Deep water, cruising market. Their vision and objective was to give comfort, luxury, and stylish sailing first priority, while incorporating the latest technology, to enable a very short-handed crew to control such a large vessel.
With the launch of the X-43 in early 2003, a new generation of Performance Cruisers was born. She had her debut at the X-Yachts Gold Cup in Hamble, UK, and proved that another successful Dual purpose boat had been designed and built, by winning her division and a second prize overall. In the autumn her bigger sister the X-46, will make her world debut at boat shows in Europe, and overseas. For 2004, the X-40 will follow in the footsteps of these new trendsetters.
2004 will be a special year; X-Yachts will celebrate its 25 year anniversary, and is still being driven by its three founders. These twenty five exciting years of development have encouraged them to design and build yachts right from the IOR racers to the fast family performance cruisers of today!
