Mega Yacht DUBAI by Blohm & Voss

Mega Yacht DUBAI by Blohm & Voss

At 162.2 meters, or 532’, in length motor yacht Dubai is now the world’s second largest superyacht after the recently launch M/Y ECLIPSE. Platinum Yachts of Dubai is the company responsible for building this amazing superyacht and the German shipbuilding companies Blohm & Voss and Lürssen Yachts are responsible for the yacht’s massive hull.

Until recently there has been no information or facts available about what exactly motor yacht DUBAI had become after being finished by Platinum yachts.

The superyacht began as a project known as Panhandle as contracted in Germany way back 1996 by the younger brother of Prince Jefri Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei. The Blohm & Voss shipyard of Hamburg, in collaboration with Lürssen Yachts, began work in earnest and the project progressed until the Sultan, ordered that construction be stopped leaving a bare steel hull and a superstructure which was left unfinished for several years.

Then, a division of Dubai World called Platinum Yachts acquired the enormous hull in 2001, along with and 250 containers full of spare parts that had been sent to the shipyard before work ceased. The project was renamed Dubai and the building continued. It took Platinum Yachts four years to finish the massive mega yach which has surprisingly elegant lines. Since completing mega yacht DUBAI in 2005, the company has also delivered motor yachts Dubai Magic and Dubawi (one of the new entries in the top 100) and has finished the hull and superstructure of a 328’ superyacht built on spec and available to an owner who wants his yacht delivered in a record 24 months.Mega Yacht DUBAI by Blohm & Voss

In spite of its 532’ (162m) and 13,470 gross tons, Dubai has rather refined lines and her bow is truly elegant even though she is a seven deck leviathan, a design created by British designer Andrew Winch which is spectacular rather than ostentatious. Finished in Awlgrip Snow White, the superyacht also shows a few stainless steel features around her portholes and large windows. Motor yacht DUBAI’s painted surface is about 107,640 sq. feet with tens of thousands of hours of work that went into fairing and painting the hull.

M/Y DUBAI’s huge transom area incorporates a staircase with views of the waterfall that cascades from the yacht’s pool which is located up aft of the main deck. The striking pool features hand-made mosaics reminiscent of the marine life of the Persian Gulf. The artwork also serves as a reminder that the Emirate of Dubai has had a long relationship with the sea, deriving some of its early resources from pearl fishing and later maritime trade.

Each lobby features a different design and materials and the style is consistent throughout the yacht but each room is decorated with a distinct variety of materials most of the time in different colors.

In spite of its 532’ (162m) length, 72’ (22m) beam and 13,470 gross tons, Dubai can reach a 26-knot top speed and cruises at 23 knots. Her range of 8,500 nm at 25 knots gives her the potential to cruise around the world in record time. Her power package is relatively modest considering her displacement; 9,150 tons: four MTU 20V 1163TB93 engines of 6,323 kW each connected by pairs to a MAAG gearbox that drives a shaft with controllable pitch propeller.

Dubai’s relatively shallow draft is appropriate for the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf. DUBAi boasts a lavish pool and the helicopter station equipped with antistatic devices to prevent any risk of sparks during refueling.

Mega Yacht DUBAI by Blohm & VossWith respect to interior decoration she has tiles covered in gold leaf, marble, onyx, lapis lazuli and malachite within the yacht’s distinct areas. Hand made mosaics are found almost everywhere and every detail has been meticulously organized and arranged to create a truly amazing superyacht. The mega yacht’s has exceptional quality finishing and her interior style is consistent throughout but each room is decorated with a variety of noble materials most of the time in different colors. In terms of insulation, the maximum noise level noted in any of the cabins is 45 decibels.

The crew area is designed to accommodate up to 115 personnel – crew number from a smaller group of 65 to a full staff of 115. The accommodations for crew are close to the engine room and garage for tenders and toys.

The superyacht is divided into four main areas which are organized around the yacht’s enormous central staircase and her social area features various salons, including a traditional “Majilis” and dining rooms. The guest accommodation is made up of 50 suites. The VIP accommodation area is a vast apartment on the fifth deck which has been divided into three suites and a home theater.

Motor yacht DUBAI’s owner’s area is accessible only through a private elevator and it takes up the two top decks. A private entrance also provides direct access to and from the helicopter pad.

Motor yacht Dubai’s wheelhouse has similarities to that of a cruise ship in terms of size and she abides by Lloyd’s +100 a1 SSC Yacht (P) mono G6 IWS +LMC (UMS) and SCM Solas requirements.
